MADE ON THE LEFT was founded in 2008 by independent designers to support Western Australian creative talent. We hold bi-annual handmade craft markets to showcase local designers.

Being on the left hand side of Australia no longer

means you'll be at a disadvantage.

Our aim is to support all creative designers and events showcasing independent labels. MOTL is a not-for-profit, non-partisan organisation. You may wonder why we promote other markets besides MOTL; it’s because it’s not about us, its about you; the buyers and sellers of indie wares. Here at the blog, you’ll discover up to date information about our latest market, the low-down on some of Perth’s emerging talents, other opportunities for artists and designers and a little bit of fun stuff too. Summer Night Markets applications open


Applications are now open for OnWilliam's annual Summer Night Markets in the Perth Cultural Centre!

This open air night market will be held on Friday 11th of December from 4 to 10pm. These pre-Christmas markets have become a must in the calendars of both local designers and city shoppers.

The Cultural Centre will be jam packed with 60+ stall holders, live music on the Wetland stage, fun activities, delicious food at 'Truck Stop', and outdoor bars at PICA and Bar Pop in the Urban Orchard.

Stall prices range from $150 - $300. Applications are due Sunday 1st November. Apply via the application form.

Fringe World market vendors - applications open!


Fringe World Festival is the largest annual performance platform in Western Australia. The 2016 Festival will run from 22 January to 21 February during the city’s buzzing summer festival period.  Nestled in the colourful village style gardens of the hugely popular Fringe World Festival sites in Northbridge, stalls selling DIY experiences and local artisan wares, with an emphasis on the innovative, fun and unique are being sought. 

Successful applicants will be required to: 
  • Commit to at least one block of seven consecutive days of trading during the Festival period (22 January to 21 February); 
  • Commit to having the stall manned during the operational hours of the festival site each day (maximum operational hours on any one day would be 12pm – 2am): and 
  • Pay an upfront site hire fee of $500 + GST per week per stall by 10 December 2015 


The following will be provided:
  • 1 x 3m x 3m marquee;
  • 1 x trestle table;
  • 2 x chairs;
  • 1 x overhead light;
  • Power;
  • Onsite Secure Container Storage; and
  • Site Manager Support.

Summerset Festival 2013 - Expressions of Interest



Summerset is calling all creative types!

“Our vision is to showcase the unique lifestyle and diversity of the City of Stirling through a range of free and low cost events and activities that celebrate our heritage, art, music and culture.” 

Are you an artist, a venue or part of a community organisation? Do you have an idea, or an existing project that you would love to showcase to a wider audience, with the possibility of FREE publicity?

The City of Stirling is currently calling for visual and/or performing artists and organisations to showcase, exhibit or perform in the City’s biggest community arts celebration, the 2013 Summerset Arts Festival! The festival attracts over 30,000 people across a range of events and activities all jam packed into 3 weeks in February!

They are seeking expressions of interest from groups and individuals skilled in the areas of dance, music, theatre, visual and performing arts, projects, workshops and/or installations that are unique, inclusive and professional and best support the Festival's vision. Preference will be given to local groups based within the City of Stirling. 

In exchange, The City of Stirling will provide marketing and promotion, assist with event management (where necessary) and in some circumstances, may also provide infrastructure or additional funding for the event or activity.

Twilight Polka Dot Vintage Market


The Twilight Polka Dot Vintage Market is being held as part of the Summerset Arts Festival on Friday 7th and Saturday 8th February 2014 from 4pm – 9pm each evening at Scarborough Beach Foreshore

Market Stalls will be set up along the Scarborough Beach Foreshore selling vintage & retro clothing & accessories, collectables, retro bric-a-brac, vintage jewellery, handmade wares, vinyl records, gourmet foods plus much more. Entry to the Vintage Market is free.

Mark Making with Gouache presented by Pauline White

Explore this versatile medium and use it alone or with watercolour or inks or acrylic. Whether you prefer abstract or figurative painting this delightful medium will seduce you.  Learn how to use the properties of any medium to your advantage and how to make the brush do most of the work.  Find a more effective use of colour. Practice how to paint glass in a convincing way. All materials supplied. Only high quality paint is used.

Dr Sketchy's Anti Art Class (Life drawing with a twist)

Dr Sketchy’s is the Art Class your mum doesn’t want you going to!  Life modelling by stunning Burlesque queens and circus performers. The most beautiful and bizarre come out for the purpose of furthering your art work.  Bring along your sketchpad and whatever medium you fancy. Easels are welcome up the back and bring a drop sheet if you intend on doing some flamboyant paint work.

Games, prizes, drinking and saucy performances. Life drawing just got a whole lot more interesting!
