MADE ON THE LEFT was founded in 2008 by independent designers to support Western Australian creative talent. We hold bi-annual handmade craft markets to showcase local designers.

Being on the left hand side of Australia no longer

means you'll be at a disadvantage.

Our aim is to support all creative designers and events showcasing independent labels. MOTL is a not-for-profit, non-partisan organisation. You may wonder why we promote other markets besides MOTL; it’s because it’s not about us, its about you; the buyers and sellers of indie wares. Here at the blog, you’ll discover up to date information about our latest market, the low-down on some of Perth’s emerging talents, other opportunities for artists and designers and a little bit of fun stuff too. 2016 KickstART Market Stallholder Applications Now Open!


Apply for a free market stall at the biggest event on the KickstART Festival calendar! The KickstART Markets feature young people selling their hand-made or vintage wares and youth-focused organisations holding information booths, with plenty interactive activities on offer.

  • Creative Stallholders must be aged 12 – 26
  • Organisations must be youth-based or offer services to young people, and must include an interactive element to their stall
The KickstART Markets showcase the work of young people in our community and the Market Day will run on Saturday 16 April 2016 from 10am – 6pm, in the heart of the Perth Cultural Centre.

Fresh Prints 2016 Stallholder Call Out



Back for its second year, Fresh Prints is a market fair for zines, independent publishing, small press, artist books, comics and printed works in Northbridge.
Creatives, organisations and individuals are invited to hold a stall and be part of this celebration of all things ink and paper. The day will feature creative workshops, storytelling area for kids, films on the Piazza screen and more!

Date: Saturday 16 April 2016
Time: 12 - 5:30pm
Location: Northbridge Piazza, cnr James and Lake Streets

Stall spaces are free, however places are limited so get in quick to secure your space. Please keep in mind that the majority of your products should be related to ink and paper somehow.

Stall Details

  • Stall spaces are free.
  • Full space (one trestle table with two chairs).
  • Half space (SHARED trestle table with another stall holder, with one chair each).
  • Shared stallholders will be sharing the same table, so please keep this in mind for your display.
  • No lighting or access to power provided.
  • All stalls will be undercover on the Piazza lawn.

Perth Makers Market


Perth Makers Market is a new market south of the river that is having its launch market on Sunday 7th February 2016. Its home will be at Heathcote Cultural Precinct in Applecross. It will be running as a bi-monthly market, on the first Sunday of the month. The market's opening hours will be from 9:30am – 3:30pm.
The goal of Perth Makers Market is to provide a platform for the talented, high quality handmade crafters that call Perth their home in a family focussed, friendly location. With strong ties to the community and a focus on giving back, Perth Makers Market is unique.

Christmas in Claremont - stallholders wanted


As part of the annual Christmas in Claremont event, the Town of Claremont is holding a festive themed market, inspired by the German Christmas Markets. Think fresh food, fine craft and everything Christmas themed!

Enjoy a summer night of carols in the park with a huge sideshow of entertainment, kids activities, food and market stalls!

Etsy: Made Local applications open


Following the success of last year’s ‘Something Different’ in Leederville, the ETSY WA Street Team is excited to announce ETSY: MADE LOCAL in a location with a difference.

WHAT IS THE EVENT?
ETSY: MADE LOCAL is a “nationwide, Etsy-supported Christmas market on November 28… [which] celebrates the crafter, collectors and artisans in local communities across the country. From coast to cost, these community building events will be run by local Etsy Teams and participating sellers.” – Etsy Australia.

This event is presented by ETSY Australia and run by volunteers of the ETSY WA Street Team. The event will feature around fifty individual artists and makers, all selling their own products.

Applications for our Christmas market are now open!

The market will be on Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd November from 10am - 5.30pm and 10am - 5pm in Forrest Place, Perth. Stalls are 3x3m space with marquees provided. Stall cost is $250 per day, or $470 for both and there is an option to apply for either one or both days.  We are only accepting applications from Western Australian handmade designers! Beaufort Street Festival applications open



Applications are now open for stalls at the Beaufort St Festival.

Prices for a 3x3 marquee are $450 +gst or $675 +gst for a 3x6m marquee.

The Business Incubator provides an opportunity for new/starter, independent and/or home-based businesses to have a space at the festival. These stall spaces are provided free of charge to selected businesses to encourage new enterprise and diversity at the Festival. Those selected 15 Business Incubator will be housed within one mini-market and share a marquee.

Joondalup Twilight Markets - Calls for Expression of Interest


The City of Joondalup is seeking expressions of interest from stallholders to take part in the 2015 Joondalup Twilight Markets. 

The Joondalup Twilight Markets will be held 5:30 - 9:00pm over five Friday evenings leading up to Christmas in November and December and will feature high quality market stalls, live music and children’s activities. If you are a stallholder offering gourmet food, fashion, jewellery, design, arts, crafts, homewares and giftwares, the City would like to hear from you.

Fresh Prints: A Celebration of Ink & Paper - Stallholder call out



Fresh Prints is a market fair for zines, independent publishing, artist books, comics and printed works. Northbridge Piazza invites all creatives and individuals who would like to hold a stall to be part of this celebration of all things ink and paper. The day will feature films on the super screen, a zine making area, printmaking and comics workshops, vintage typewriter exhibition, storytelling area for kids, and Ships in the Night speakers and music performances.

Stall spaces are free, however space is limited so applications must be made in advance. Please keep in mind that the majority of your products should be related to ink and paper somehow.

Stretch Arts Festival Art Markets


An opportunity exists for designers, craftspeople, and gourmets to exhibit and sell their products during the Stretch Arts Festival in Festival Square, presented by Act-Belong-Commit.

Date: Saturday 2 & Sunday 3 May 2015
Where: Festival Square, Ormsby Tce, Mandurah (near the Mandurah Performing Arts Centre and Reading Cinemas)
Event Duration: 10.00am - 4.00pm, setup will be allocated between 7.30am - 9.30am
Site: 3m x 3m space
Cost:  $90 1 day
         $150 both days
         $135 both days, if you are a resident within the ‘6210’ area

Important Details:
• There are 15 sites available only, so get your application forms in.
• Stallholders must exhibit for the full day.
• Products must be handmade by the stallholder.
• Stallholders who value-add to a product must provide significant creative input into the final product.
• If you wish to share a stall each applicant must complete an application form.
• You are required to provide your own marquee/shade.
• You are required to have your own public liability insurance and provide evidence.

Mother's Day Markets



Palmyra Western Farmers Market Mother's Day Pop Shop Art/Craft Market is on the morning of Sunday 27th April from 8am – 12pm. This will be held alongside their weekly Farmers Market. Stalls are from $50. Stallholders will need to bring all equipment e.g. trestle tables, chairs, etc.  To apply, contact Pally Pop Shop on pallyfarm@live.com or 0433 433 077 during normal business hours. Applications are now open for the Summer Night Markets in Perth Cultural Centre.

OnWilliam in conjunction with MRA will again host December night markets for the fourth year running. This marketplace has gained a reputation as a must visit pre-Christmas market, and this year will be extended to two consecutive nights.

Applications are open to:
- food stalls
- local designer stalls
- vintage market stalls
- art/craft/cultural activity or service stalls

Nannup Music Festival - stallholders required



The organisers of the Nannup Music Festival are looking for locally made products, craft and art stalls to be part of the festival markets. Stall applications are now open so apply here

Nannup Music Festival runs from Friday 27th February to 3rd March 2015. Stalls are encouraged to trade for the full festival with priority given to stallholders applying for three day trading.

Stall spaces are 4 metres wide by 4 metres long and you must supply your own marquee. 2 day stalls cost $70 per day and 3 day stalls are $50 per day.

Closing date for applications is 5pm, 7th November 2014.

The market will be on Saturday 22nd & Sunday 23rd November from 10am - 4pm in Forrest Place and you can apply for one or two days. Something Different – a pop up event in Leederville

This event is presented by Etsy Australia and run by volunteers of the Etsy WA Street Team.

WHAT IS THE EVENT?
Something Different – a pop up event in Leederville
7th - 9th November 2014
             Friday 5pm - 9pm
             Sat & Sun 10am - 4pm
The Leederville Arena (corner of Newcastle and Oxford Streets, Leederville)

This inaugural event will have 40 individual artists and makers, all selling their own products. The focus is to EAT, SHOP, DRINK! 

Stallholders will be selected by an Etsy jury, based on application merit. All products must be designed, created and produced in Western Australia. You must have an Etsy shop to apply. Categories of sellers may include: fine art, home decor, stationery, jewellery, ceramics, furniture, clothing, vintage, children's or infant's products, beauty, fashion and accessories, packaged food products (no fresh food - sorry), plants & gardenware. Each allocated stall will be of an area approximately 2 x 1.5m and consist of a trestle table, table cloth and name sign (all supplied). They are able to offer a very affordable stall price of $40 per day (a total of $120 for the event), thanks to the generous support of several sponsors.

It's a great opportunity, especially if you have never had a market stall before!

artMarket @ Deanmore


artMarket @ Deanmore is happening on Sunday December 7th.

artMarket at Deanmore is an annual fundraising event for the Deanmore Primary School in Karrinyup and will focus on sustainability - local, handmade and artisan, up-cycled, recycled or organic.

Along with the artisan crafted market stalls the event includes a children's art competition (smArt), a professional art show gallery, buskers, gourmet picnics, demonstrations of the sustainable kind along with loads of old-school style games and activities for the kids. There is strong support from the local community including sponsorship from local businesses, drop-ins from an AFL team and even a MasterChef contestant who will be presenting cooking demonstrations!

A market stall for the day will cost $30 and a donation of your product for a raffle.

Each vendor space is under the classroom verandas and includes a bench or chair.  Vendors are asked to supply their own table or display.

City of Joondalup Twilight Markets - Stallholder Expression of Interest



The Joondalup Twilight Markets will return to Central Walk, Joondalup in 2014 over five Friday evenings leading up to Christmas. If you are a stallholder who would like to be involved in this exciting event and can offer products such as gourmet food, fashion, jewellery, design, arts, crafts, homewares or giftwares, then the City would love to hear from you.

Angove St Festival call for stallholders



The Angove Street Festival celebrates all that is North Perth and attracts over 40,000 people each year to the one day event. Shops will be open for business, and there'll be approximately 100 market stalls to browse and buy from as well as some live music, free children's entertainment, and a wide range of food stalls offering cuisines from across the World.

If you are interested in participating in the Angove Street Festival, contact info@angovestreetfestival.com.au for a Stallholder Application Form which will need to be completed and returned by 1 August 2014.

All arts, crafts and fashion stalls must feature products that are locally (WA) designed and made. Stall prices start from $310 for a 3m x 3m marquee & trestle table and all stallholders must hold their own public liability insurance of $10 million.
