OUR mission statement

MADE ON THE LEFT was founded in 2008 by independent designers to support Western Australian creative talent. We hold bi-annual handmade craft markets to showcase local designers.

Being on the left hand side of Australia no longer

means you'll be at a disadvantage.

Our aim is to support all creative designers and events showcasing independent labels. MOTL is a not-for-profit, non-partisan organisation. You may wonder why we promote other markets besides MOTL; it’s because it’s not about us, its about you; the buyers and sellers of indie wares. Here at the blog, you’ll discover up to date information about our latest market, the low-down on some of Perth’s emerging talents, other opportunities for artists and designers and a little bit of fun stuff too. It’s all right here… welcome!

Live, work or play in City of Melville? Add YOUR input!

Are you a young professional or creative (around 25 to 35 years of age) living, working or playing in the City of Melville?

Then we’d love you to join in a café conversation about how to support and grow cultural vitality in the City of Melville.

Whether you live, work or play in the City, we’re keen to talk to you!

The City of Melville is developing a Cultural Vitality Plan that looks at how best to use local cultural resources to promote social and economic development and consequently enhance quality of life. These cultural resources could include visual, performing and literary arts, heritage buildings, festivals and events, community values and traditions, recreational facilities, café strips, creative industries and much more.

We want to know how well the arts and cultural needs of young professionals and creatives are being catered for in the City of Melville. Your opinion is important and will help the City plan for a culturally vibrant future.

Join me for a café conversation about cultural vitality:

Date: Saturday, 30 October 2010
Time: 2pm to 3pm
Cafe: Coffea Fine Espresso, 31a Ardross Street, Applecross
Light refreshments provided.

Please register your attendance by Wednesday 27 October by contacting me at anne [!at] annegoodall.com.au or on 0407 441 822. If you’re interested in contributing your ideas and are unable to attend the café conversation, please contact me to arrange an alternative means for input.

It would be great if you could pass on this invitation to any other young professionals and creatives you know who live in the City of Melville.

For information about all the ways that City of Melville residents, workers and visitors can provide input to the development of the Cultural Vitality Plan, check out .

Artist Call-out ARTillery 2010

Artist Call-out ARTillery 2010

The ARTillery Festival creates events which challenge local artists to explore the topic of human rights through their art. Visual artists are invited to take up the challenge and apply to be a part
Masterpeace. Each selected artist will be given an information pack on one of Amnesty International’s individuals at risk (someone imprisoned unjustly), and will create a work based on the information in whatever form the artists feels appropriate. The Masterpeace exhibition is one of 5 events happening in Perth during the festival, which will run from the 1st to the 10th of December.

Send expressions of interest, a brief bio and 3 - 5 examples of previous work to masterpeace@artilleryfestival.com

Applications close October 15th! See www.artilleryfestival.com for more information.
