OUR mission statement

MADE ON THE LEFT was founded in 2008 by independent designers to support Western Australian creative talent. We hold bi-annual handmade craft markets to showcase local designers.

Being on the left hand side of Australia no longer

means you'll be at a disadvantage.

Our aim is to support all creative designers and events showcasing independent labels. MOTL is a not-for-profit, non-partisan organisation. You may wonder why we promote other markets besides MOTL; it’s because it’s not about us, its about you; the buyers and sellers of indie wares. Here at the blog, you’ll discover up to date information about our latest market, the low-down on some of Perth’s emerging talents, other opportunities for artists and designers and a little bit of fun stuff too. It’s all right here… welcome!

Meeting and Making

Last night another fantastic Made on the Left meetup took place at the Balmoral (I have no idea how to spell that, forgive me!) Hotel in East Victoria Park. Etsy sent us a box of goodies to help charity by whipping up some pillowcases which we did with gusto and also frustration as the only sewing machines we had were really really old and not so very cooperative! We had some really tasty nibblies and gossiped as we created. There wasn't as big a turn out as the last meetup but the fewer numbers meant that it felt real cosy. Here are some photos I snapped during the night and I hope to see you at the next Made on the Left meetup which I believe will be down in Dwellingup.
xoxo

Beaufort Street Festival

Life is Noise, The Beaufort Street Network and Town of Vincent present...
THE BEAUFORT STREET FESTIVAL 2010
Saturday, November 27
Beaufort Street, Highgate and Mount Lawley

...Beaufort Street has always been at the heart of cool, alternative, independent culture in Perth, so it’s high time that we got a festival to celebrate the music, art, fashion and food that make the precinct so special.

The Beaufort Street Festival will showcase the cutting-edge talent and diversity of Perth’s musicians, artists, designers and culinary taste-makers on Saturday November 27.

Perth’s cultural hub will come alive with unique, quirky and stylish displays of bands, temporary art exhibitions and fashion parades, with the action taking place on the streets, in shops, cafes, bars and laneways.

The festival is the brainchild of the Beaufort Street Network, a collective of local businesses and residents, and they’re looking for help to make the event a representation of all that the Beaufort Street precinct has to offer. Accordingly, the Network is putting the call-out for community involvement.

If there’s something you’d like to see be part of the festival, or if you’d simply like to volunteer your time, contact Festival Director Dave Cutbush on 0400 498 362 or at festival@beaufortstreet.com.au.

Meet & Make August 2010

MOTL July 2010 5

Hey to all you lovely people, lovely to chat isn't it?

However, it doesn't really cut it when compared to a real, one-on-one, in the flesh talkathon does it?

Well you're in luck. Turns out Etsy is helping us organise our second meet for the public (before it was kinda just Etsy sellers that hung out on a particular forum).

And as usual for Made on the Left, its in a pub! Hoorah! Big thank you to the Balmoral for their lovely support, we couldn't do it without you.

So without further ado, here is the link to register your interest. It's crucial you respond if you're thinking of coming along, as it gives us an idea of numbers.

And yes, you can make a pillowcase for charity if you want, but we will be having something else to do (many things). Including making bunting for future MOTL markets like the ones pictured, I LOVE it so much, but we need more, more MORE!

Hope to see you there you creative things you. xx

Stallholder Opportunity : Vintage Vixens and Vamps!

Following their very successful debut market, the VVV ladies are looking to do it all again, but they need some sellers to show their awesome vintage wares? Got a great collection? See application details below, and check out their blog http://vintagevixensandvamps.blogspot.com/

Vintage Vixens & Vamps I on May 23 was an outstanding success with over 1200 shoppers leaving laden with goodies. We are expecting even more through the door this time around and we are having some great feedback about exciting elements we will introduce for the event.

We will be doing our bit in the lead up to Vintage Vixens & Vamps II by distributing more than 6000 posters and fliers as well as featuring regular updates about stallholders on our blog and facebook page. On the day itself every shopper will be given a comprehensive brochure listing all the contact information of participating stallholders.

As management of Vintage Vixens and Vamps moves into the hands of the newly emerging retailer organising committee we look forward to growing and developing our exciting industry and its relationship with the local community.

There are some very exciting times ahead. Recent discussions with the Mayor of Fremantle and senior officers have highlighted the possibility of future VVV events being part of bigger and established Fremantle festivals.
