OUR mission statement

MADE ON THE LEFT was founded in 2008 by independent designers to support Western Australian creative talent. We hold bi-annual handmade craft markets to showcase local designers.

Being on the left hand side of Australia no longer

means you'll be at a disadvantage.

Our aim is to support all creative designers and events showcasing independent labels. MOTL is a not-for-profit, non-partisan organisation. You may wonder why we promote other markets besides MOTL; it’s because it’s not about us, its about you; the buyers and sellers of indie wares. Here at the blog, you’ll discover up to date information about our latest market, the low-down on some of Perth’s emerging talents, other opportunities for artists and designers and a little bit of fun stuff too. It’s all right here… welcome!

Are you a recent graduate wanting to step into the design industry in Perth? Make the most of this rare opportunity to meet Perth's design professionals, all in the one room at the one time, and get the inside story on finding the right job for you in this town.

Call for Designers and Artisans

Eco Faeries is a company that bridges diverse community through celebration to promote positive sustainable lifestyles. Below are two events coming up that you may be interested in.

Saturday 26th February is an adults faeries party with a sustainable clothing fashion parade. Organisers are inviting local designers who use sustainable materials, upcycle or recycle clothing to participate. There is no fee to designers who want to participate in this event as organisers want to promote local sustainable clothing, however you will need to organise your own models, choreos, makeup etc. This is an 'outside the box' fashion parade that will be paraded among performance artists, DJ's, live VJ's, special effects and theatre. Some designers have used dancers as models, as well as body painting designs to go with the theme of the event.

Sunday 27th March is the Eco Faerie festival including local artisans, fair trade and local growers market.

Both events are held at Cityfarm in east Perth. For more information on eco faeries head to www.ecofaeries.com or call or email Faerie Cara on 0415 174 115 and faeriecara@hotmail.com.

Reins exhibition at Freerange Gallery

[ will stoker & matt doust ]

Thu Jan 13 2011 - Wed Jan 19 2011
opening » thu, 13th jan, 7pm, performance starts at 8pm
gallery times » 11am-5pm fri-wedReins is a multi-media collaboration between artist Matt Doust and musician Will Stoker, a personal dialogue to be presented within the walls of Free Range gallery.
Through the submergence of painting, music, video projection and performance, Doust and Stoker aim to thematically explore/ highlight the concept of control as practiced/applied to dichotomous impulses within the human mind.
Doust and Stoker view a metaphoric holding of the reins as integral to human existence and employ various mediums to express the experience of this conceptual constraint; delving into the idea that mental and physical activity is in a continual flux of self-censorship that inevitably culminates in an anaesthetised state of awareness.
“…During the conscious state we glance at our signifiers which remind us to behave: but when we lay our head down to slumber, the subconscious mind is at the helm, taking us on a voyage in the dream state, from white clouds to lakes of fire.”
