50 cats of Perth project

If you are a cat owner in Perth, here's an exciting opportunity for your beloved puss to be immortalised in watercolour!

One of our stallholders, Eeva Margita, has a new project called "50 cats of Perth". She'll be drawing 50 cat residents of Perth and compiling them into an A3 archival art print. If you live in Perth, WA with a cat, you can apply to be a part of the project! You will need to send 3 photos of your cat. At the end of the project you are welcome to purchase the original painting of your cat for $50, but there is absolutely no obligation to buy. Fresh Prints: A Celebration of Ink & Paper - Stallholder call out

Fresh Prints is a market fair for zines, independent publishing, artist books, comics and printed works. Northbridge Piazza invites all creatives and individuals who would like to hold a stall to be part of this celebration of all things ink and paper. The day will feature films on the super screen, a zine making area, printmaking and comics workshops, vintage typewriter exhibition, storytelling area for kids, and Ships in the Night speakers and music performances.

Stall spaces are free, however space is limited so applications must be made in advance. Please keep in mind that the majority of your products should be related to ink and paper somehow.

When: Saturday 18 April 2015, 12 – 5pm

Where: Northbridge Piazza, cnr James and Lake Streets

• Full space (one trestle table with two chairs)

• Half space (shared trestle table with another stall holder, with one chair each)

Australia’s richest and most prestigious print award returns in 2015 with a national judging panel and $22,000 in prize money. The Fremantle Arts Centre Print Award is Australia’s premier showcase of prints and artists’ books. Now in its 40th anniversary year, the Award and exhibition continue to present the best works from established, emerging and cross-disciplinary artists.

First Prize $16,000. Work acquired for the City of Fremantle Art Collection, WA’s largest municipal collection. 
Second Prize $6,000.

Between the Sheets: Artists’ Books Exhibition 2015 is an exhibition of the work of 53 leading and emerging International and Australian artists. Gallery East present artists’ books from Australia, Europe, UK, Zimbabwe, USA and Asia. Printmakers, photographers, wordsmiths, textile artists, painters, sculptors and digital artists employ both traditional and contemporary art practices to create personal and universal takes on this most fascinating of art forms.

First Impressions - A Group Exhibition for Printmaking Lovers

First Impressions is an exhibition celebrating the work of Beau Est Mien’s talented workshop attendees.
The exhibition will highlight artworks produced from all of the 2014 workshops from many talented people that have participated throughout the year. It will be showcasing monoprints, collagraphs, screen prints on both paper and fabric, and etchings completed by both kids and adults. The exhibition is also the perfect opportunity for anyone to discover what can be achieved in one of their workshops.
The exhibition opening is on 20th September, 5-8pm at Beau Est Mien, 458 William St, Northbridge.
Also, for one night only, you can get a 10% discount on printmaking supplies sold in the shop and a 10% discount on any workshop booking made on the night!

The Exhibition is on in store until 4th October.

Printmaking workshops

Printmaker Magali Dincher of Beau Est Mien has some workshops for adults coming up in her Fremantle studio.

Draw and Print a map of your city!

1st of March, 10am to 3 pm

$200 per person.

Be inspired by Magali's quirky way of drawing cities to create a map of your own neighborhood. Come along with some images of your house and the surroundings to use to draw your map. In the afternoon, use your drawing to create a printing plate and learn how to ink your plate up to create a limited edition of collagraph prints to bring home. Price includes all printing materials and inks.   

Crafternoon Decor Workshop
15 March, 10am to 3pm
$200 per person.

Create and print beautiful prints to decorate your home! Indulge in a crafternoon workshop to create your own hand printed tea towels, table runners, place mats, and cushion covers. You will learn a simple but super effective method of stencil and screen printing that creates bold patterns. Price includes 4 X cotton Tea Towels for printing. You are welcome to bring your own cotton fabric to create other homewares too. More tea towels available to purchase on the day. No experience necessary, price includes all printing materials and inks.

Letterpress Art Competition

Whiteman Park Print Shop has celebrated the craftsmanship of traditional letterpress printing since 1988. For their 25th anniversary, they want to invite everyone - Perth artists, illustrators, graphic designers, typographers, printmakers and enthusiasts - to take part in a juried art exhibition titled "My Perth". 
The jury panel will be selecting 20 artworks to be letterpress printed on 300gsm cotton stock. Print editions will be limited to 50 copies each and will be exhibited and on sale in late 2013. The selected artists will receive 20 copies of their own letterpress printed artwork. Deadline for artwork submission: 31 August 2013 via email. 

The exhibition will be held at Whiteman Park Print Shop with a grand opening gala on Sunday 17 November and will run until Sunday 24 November.

Designer Speed Dating

Are you a recent graduate wanting to step into the design industry in Perth? Make the most of this rare opportunity to meet Perth's design professionals, all in the one room at the one time, and get the inside story on finding the right job for you in this town.

This two-part event at the Fremantle Arts Centre features a presentation by four designers at different stages of their career, sharing their experiences and giving valuable advice.

The second 'designer speed dating' part allows you to introduce yourself to four or so designers in ten minute, one-on-one chats. A great opportunity to show your folio and get feedback, ask all those questions you have and gain a little insight into the industry.

Presenters:

• Dan Elliot and Henry Luong from Organ Studio, 2008 Curtin Uni graduates at the beginning of their careers.
• Michelle Leslie from Studio Bomba and Mitchell & Dent, a web designer of 8 years experience who has shaped her career with additional study to gain experience in illustration, packaging and print design.
• John Emery from REB Design, owner director of one of Perth's most prominent studios, designer and employer of designers.
