OUR mission statement

MADE ON THE LEFT was founded in 2008 by independent designers to support Western Australian creative talent. We hold bi-annual handmade craft markets to showcase local designers.

Being on the left hand side of Australia no longer

means you'll be at a disadvantage.

Our aim is to support all creative designers and events showcasing independent labels. MOTL is a not-for-profit, non-partisan organisation. You may wonder why we promote other markets besides MOTL; it’s because it’s not about us, its about you; the buyers and sellers of indie wares. Here at the blog, you’ll discover up to date information about our latest market, the low-down on some of Perth’s emerging talents, other opportunities for artists and designers and a little bit of fun stuff too. It’s all right here… welcome!

Bassendean's Tasty Pear

The Tasty Pear is a beautiful new pop up store in Bassendean situated in the newly refurbished shopping centre, where shoppers can browse and buy handmade artisan products in a beautiful, relaxed setting. With a range of unusual, carefully sourced and well-made items, The Tasty Pear offers everything from inexpensive gifts to luxury art pieces.

The shop was opened in mid-November by two Bassendean locals, Gill Cordiner and Chantal Kilpatrick. Gill is a jeweller and painter whose work won this year’s local artist prize at the Bassendean Art Awards. Chantal and her sister run a successful clothing and soft furnishings label, 'violetclothing'.

Drawing on their extensive experience, they saw the shop as an opportunity to offer emerging and established Perth artists a place to sell their work, and to foster the burgeoning creative vibe that is already present in Bassendean with shops such as Daisy and Rowe and events such as the Old Perth Markets. Bassendean is well known for having an impressive creative community, and Gill and Chantal hope that The Tasty Pear presents an opportunity for some local creatives to gain better exposure in their own community.

If you’re a local or WA artist or maker who would be interested in selling your work at The Tasty Pear then please visit the shop’s Facebook page or website for full more details
