OUR mission statement

MADE ON THE LEFT was founded in 2008 by independent designers to support Western Australian creative talent. We hold bi-annual handmade craft markets to showcase local designers.

Being on the left hand side of Australia no longer

means you'll be at a disadvantage.

Our aim is to support all creative designers and events showcasing independent labels. MOTL is a not-for-profit, non-partisan organisation. You may wonder why we promote other markets besides MOTL; it’s because it’s not about us, its about you; the buyers and sellers of indie wares. Here at the blog, you’ll discover up to date information about our latest market, the low-down on some of Perth’s emerging talents, other opportunities for artists and designers and a little bit of fun stuff too. It’s all right here… welcome!

Outskirts 2011: Call for submissions

On Sunday 25 September the creative hub of Northbridge will come alive for Outskirts, a precinct wide festival celebrating emerging fashion and design. Pop-up stores, artist studios, performance, street stalls, designer sales, workshops and more will take to the streets, as part of Outskirts, which is an event within the Perth Fashion Festival.

Outskirts is a pedestal for upcoming and existing local WA talent - the inaugural 2009 event comprised of over 50 things to do, see and collect, supported over 290 individual creatives and was a huge success for all involved. This year we hope to make it even better by filling every nook in Northbridge with something exciting, and we're hoping that you can be part of making this happen.

You're Invited
We're looking for creative people, businesses and organisations to get involved in this year's Outskirts program.

The scope is huge, and it is really up to what you would like to do to be included. To get you thinking, here are few ideas:
- a pop up store
- take your studio to the street for a day
- a static display of your latest collection
- an exhibition
- a street market stall
- a group activity involving the public (workshop, public art installation, etc)
- a fashion parade

Your concept can be purely promotional - building an image for your brand, or commercial - aiming to make sales on the day.

Submissions are due on 1 July.
